Georgian Dream is doing its best to destroy any chance of Georgia getting candidate status and they shamefully inform the European Union that the activity of the President is unacceptable for them - of course, they are doing this to show all this to Russia, conflict expert Paata Zakareishvili told InterPressNews while evaluating the ruling party's decision to start the impeachment procedure against the President of Georgia.
"All this is not being done to show the West, because the West will see well what the situation is in Georgia. Of course, they do this to show all this to Russia. The main thing for them is to ensure that the patron state, Russia, is satisfied with how the Georgian Dream is destroying pro-European movements in Georgia. They are blinded in the Georgian Dream. Their behavior is shameful. Georgia has never had such a weak government and authorities, and unfortunately, it has never had such a weak opposition either.
Their main task is to somehow achieve that Georgia does not get the candidate status. If the European Union still grants us the status, they will appropriate it in order to win the elections, but they prefer to win elections in a different way. Therefore, they are doing everything to destroy any chance of getting candidate status. They shamefully inform the European Union that the President's activity in the direction of cooperation with the European Union is unacceptable. This is impudence, but they hope that they will succeed, because the opposition will not be able to unite. The allegation that Zurabishvili is violating the constitution is not correct. Zurabishvili protects the constitution, because the strategic directions of Georgia are directly written in the constitution. They violate the constitution when they do not allow Zurabishvili to fulfill these requirements of the constitution. Zurabishvili may be procedurally violating, but she is essentially protecting the constitution," said Paata Zakareishvili.
Georgian Dream is starting the impeachment procedure against Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili. Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze made the corresponding statement at the press conference today.
According to Kobakhidze, the impeachment procedure will begin even though its implementation needs the support of the opposition in the parliament.
