The Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested 6 people for the group violence committed against Irakli Edzgveradze, the deputy of the National Movement of the Tbilisi City Council.
According to the agency, the investigation established that the defendants inflicted physical injuries on one of the deputies of the Tbilisi City Council and his companions, after which they hid from the scene of the incident.
"Employees of the Gldani-Nadzaladevi Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with the employees of the Tbilisi City Prosecutor's Office, arrested 6 people on charges of group violence against two or more people in connection with the incident of violence in Gldani.
The arrested persons are: E.C. born in 1988, T.Kh. born in 1996, G.K. born in 1988, L.A. born in 1989, M.S. and B.A. born in 1994
The crime is punishable by up to 2 years of imprisonment.
The investigation established that on September 22 of this year, in Gldani, the defendants inflicted physical injuries on one of the deputies of the Tbilisi City Council and his companions, after which they hid from the scene of the incident.
As a result of operative-search measures and investigative actions, law enforcement officers arrested 6 persons involved in the crime.
The investigation into the fact of group violence against two or more persons is being carried out under subsections "b" and "c" of the first part of Article 126 of the Criminal Code.
It should be noted that the friends and party members of the injured persons prevented the law enforcement officers who arrived on the spot based on the notification of the incident, verbally and physically abused them and resisted them, during which the police arrested 3 persons in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offences. Also, administrative proceedings were initiated against those who obstructed and resisted law enforcement officers while performing their official duties.
As a result of the confrontation, the police officers have various injuries on their bodies.
The investigation into the attack on the police officers during the performance of official activities is being conducted under Article 353 of the Criminal Code", reads the information released by the agency.
