The IMF suspended a program after the adoption of the changes related to the National Bank and they hid it - talks on the resumption were supposed to start on October 17-18, however, in such a situation no one will resume the program, EuroOptimists MP Roman Gotsiridze told reporters.
According to him, the IMF program is an important signal to investors and the main factor of confidence, so its suspension will have a negative impact.
"The program of the International Monetary Fund is an important signal for investors and the main factor of confidence, it shows that there is macroeconomic stability in the country and the financial policy of Georgia is supported by international financial and credit organizations. The other side of the program is the preferential credits that the country receives, and this is a 300 million program. Suspension of the program is a very bad signal and mistrust towards the financial authorities of Georgia. Such things used to happen during Shevardnadze's time when the funds of the IMF or the World Bank were wasted and used in a corrupt system. The National Bank hid the suspension of the program. Three days ago, according to the statement of the International Monetary Fund, it became clear that the program has been suspended. It was suspended after the changes related to the National Bank, called the Turnava law, which was vetoed by the President, however, the Parliament overrode it. Then the program was suspended and they hid it. Talks about resuming the program were supposed to start on October 17-18, which is out of the question, in such a situation no one will resume the program, and I doubt that the IMF mission will arrive in Georgia at all", said Gotsiridze.
