The representatives of Georgian Dream did not support the European Council's resolution on recognizing Russia as a dictatorship, the Ekho Kavkaza project of Radio Liberty reports.
For information, the resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on October 13 declares Russian President Vladimir Putin "illegitimate" if he remains in office after the 2024 elections.
Only Ketevan Turazashvili, deputy of the Citizens party, supported the mentioned resolution from Georgia.
According to Irakli Chikovani, the head of the delegation of Georgian Dream in the Assembly, some representatives of the ruling party are in Poland as observers, while he had "other business to do".
"First of all, I am not going to agree the priorities of our activities with you. Secondly, I explained to the public and said that earlier, we have participated in the [Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe] sessions with different composition in different years, so there can be no subtext. If we discuss anything or talk about anything with the Russian Federation, it stems from only one task - restoration of our territorial integrity and the situation of our fellow citizens in the occupied territories," Chikovani said.
At the same time, when asked whether there is a dictatorship in Russia, the head of the Georgian Dream delegation noted that "there are problems related to the full functioning of democracy" in Russia.
For information, the Georgian Dream delegation did not join the resolution of the Council of Europe recognizing Russia as a terrorist state in 2022 either.
