Hate speech is a problem, but the freedom of expression cannot be restricted, the state must protect the balance properly, said Public Defender Levan Ioseliani while commenting on the amendments to the law on broadcasting.
Ioseliani states that "hate speech is opposed by legislation not only in Georgia, but all over the world, and this is natural."
"The language of hate is a problem in our country, and I think this hall best represents that. When I was here, I saw nothing but hatred in this hall from people towards each other. But at the same time, we should not forget that the freedom of expression protected by Article 10 is a good that cannot be limited on any basis, and the state must protect this balance properly. However, the hate speech is opposed not only in Georgia, but throughout the world by legislation, international legislation among them, this is natural and this is not new," said Ioseliani.
Ioseliani did not answer the question, to what extent the "balance" he was talking about is protected by the changes.
