Austrian logistics company Gebrüder Weiss is starting the third expansion of its logistics center in Tbilisi.

The company is responding to the growing demand for transport and logistics services in the Caucasus region and is once again significantly expanding its modern logistics terminal in the capital of Georgia.

The foundations of the construction have already been laid and the project is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2024.

“This is a decisive step for us, because we want to continue to expand our services in Georgia. The additional logistics space will allow us to manage increasing business volumes in an agile and flexible manner and ensure customer satisfaction”, explains Alexander Kharlamov, Country Manager Georgia at Gebrüder Weiss.

“In addition, we use the expansion to grow cooperation with Kazakhstan, focus on regional hub business and international key accounts “, adds Thomas Moser, Regional Manager at Gebrüder Weiss.

Only recently, Gebrüder Weiss has established a regular groupage freight service by truck between Tbilisi and Almaty (Kazakhstan), which links Central Asia more closely to the European general cargo network of Gebrüder Weiss, offering customers an alternative option to air freight.

Gebrüder Weiss logistics terminal in Georgia was established in 2012 and has become an important hub for the transportation of goods between Europe and Central Asia. Over the past three years, the import and export of goods has dramatically increased, both in the direction of the European Union, Georgia's neighboring countries - Armenia and Azerbaijan, and in the direction of Central Asia. Accordingly, the demand for transport routes, warehouse infrastructure and logistics services are high. Gebrüder Weiss Georgia has responded to this economic development by expanding the existing logistics area by more than 13,000 m2.

Gebrüder Weiss recognized the economic potential and geostrategic importance of the Caucasus region early and has already made successful investments in this region. Today, many large customers in the textile, household goods, high-tech and automotive industries rely on the fast and reliable services of the Austrian logistics company. In the last five years, Gebrüder Weiss has transported a total of up to 500,000 tons.

For information, Gebrüder Weiss Holding AG, based in Lauterach, Austria, is a globally operative full-service logistics provider with about 8,400 employees at 180 company-owned locations. In the last fiscal year (2022), it posted annual sales of 3 billion euros. Its portfolio encompasses transport and logistics solutions, digital services, and supply chain management. The twin strengths of digital and physical competence enable Gebrüder Weiss to respond swiftly and flexibly to customers’ needs. The family-run organization – with a history going back more than half a millennium – has implemented a wide variety of environmental, economic, and social initiatives. Today, it is also considered a pioneer in sustainable business practices.
