It is absolutely artificial attempt to connect the issue of Georgia with the negotiations that will take place around the issue of Ukraine - the candidate status should be granted to Georgia in all cases, Georgian Dream chairman Irakli Kobakhidze said.

According to Kobakhidze, the negotiations between the European Union and Hungary should not affect the issue of Georgia, especially since it is not correct to connect Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova directly in this direction. The chairman of the ruling party once again recalled that last year, unlike Ukraine and Moldova, Georgia was not given the status of a candidate.

"Hungary's position is that the decision should be taken in favor of Georgia at the European Council meeting, and this has no alternative - Hungary will be a very strong supporter. Of course, there will be negotiations between the European Union and Hungary, this is the issue of the European Union and Hungary, we cannot interfere in it. Naturally, these negotiations should not affect the issue of Georgia, especially since it is not correct to connect Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova directly in this direction. You remember that Ukraine and Moldova were granted candidate status last year, but this did not become the basis for Georgia to be granted the status, even though Georgia was much ahead of both countries last year, as well as this year. Therefore, it is absolutely artificial attempt to connect the issue of Georgia with the negotiations that will take place around the issue of Ukraine. In any case, one way or another, Georgia should be granted the candidate status.

We are confident that there will be a positive decision on December 14-15. The discussions we are having with our partners and colleagues in Hungary reinforce this belief. There are all kinds of grounds for the European Council to make a positive decision regarding Georgia," Kobakhidze said.

According to him, the success of Ukraine and Moldova is also important for Georgia, however, first of all, he cares about his own success.

"Regarding the issue of the trio, our issue is naturally important to us, Georgia deserves the status of a candidate and I hope that it will be granted this status. Naturally, we also support Ukraine and Moldova, their progress is also important for us," said Kobakhidze.

He also talked about the details of the current visit to Hungary.

"Today we continue our visit to Hungary with meetings in the Parliament, we already met with the deputy chairman of the Parliament, where we talked about cooperation between countries, cooperation between parliaments. Naturally, the conversation also touched on the subject of the candidate's status. We received a very solid promoise that Hungary will support the granting of candidate status to Georgia. For us, this support is very important from the side of Hungary," said Kobakhidze.
