We must realize that the situation in Georgia is very difficult and we must speak with one voice to the Georgian government. Maybe we should review the decision regarding visa liberalization, maybe we should review the decisions and position regarding the next steps on the path of Georgia joining the European Union, and this responsibility rests with the Georgian government, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said in an interview with Deutsche Welle.

"We support Georgia's aspiration towards NATO and the European Union. The EU has done a lot in this regard. At the end of last year, we gave them candidate status, and the Georgian government promised us that they would fulfill 9 steps. But what we see today is that the Georgian government is introducing legislation on "foreign agents", which is the complete opposite way. These are not the steps that should be taken by the Georgian government towards the European Union", said the head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry.

He also spoke about his visit to Georgia together with the Foreign Ministers of Latvia, Lithuania and Iceland.

"We decided to invite great friends of Georgia, such as Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Iceland, to send a message to Georgia that all the steps taken by the European Union are not a gift, visa liberalization is not a gift either, and this was our very clear message to the Georgian government. More than 80 percent of Georgian people support the path to the European Union. We reiterated to the Georgian government that Georgia's rightful place is in the European Union, and the Georgian government must fulfill its promises," said Margus Tsahkna.

According to him, they had meetings with the president, the prime minister, the minister of foreign affairs, as well as the speaker of the parliament, non-governmental organizations and opposition leaders.

"The President of Georgia stated very clearly that this draft law is wrong in principle, there is nothing to discuss about it and she will veto it, although according to the Constitution of Georgia, the last word belongs to the Parliament. We hope that our message has reached the Georgian government and they will reconsider this issue, because we will raise this issue at the EU level very strongly and everyone should understand that the decisions we made regarding the candidate status or visa liberalization were not given to the Georgian government as a gift and responsibility in this regard rests with the Government of Georgia", said Margus Tsahkna.
