The anti-corruption bureau has turned into a repressive mechanism - instead of fighting corruption, it persecutes political parties and representatives of the civil sector, and selectively! - Ana Natsvlishvili, one of the leaders of "Strong Georgia" told the media about this.
As Natsvlishvili noted in this context, corruption "stares you directly in the face" in any city of Georgia, and in this background, the question arises, to what extent the Anti-Corruption Bureau has fulfilled the obligation imposed on it by law and which one fact of corruption has been revealed.
"The main function and legitimate goal of the creation of the anti-corruption bureau was for the bureau to protect citizens' finances, so that they are not taken by officials and used for the illegal enrichment of those in power. This was the task of creating the anti-corruption bureau. We see that the Anti-Corruption Bureau is doing nothing to protect the budget from hijacking. Instead, it has turned into a repressive mechanism, targeting political parties and representatives of the civil sector, and selectively. It is one of the most clearly expressed repressive mechanisms, which violates the fundamental principles of a free and equal electoral environment," said Ana Natsvlishvili.
According to the anti-corruption bureau's decision, "Transparency International - Georgia", its director Eka Gigauri, as well as the organization "Choose Europe", its director Khatuna Lagazidze and co-founders were recognized as entities with declared electoral goals and the restrictions stipulated by the third chapter of the Organic Law "On Political Union of Citizens" will spread.
As the head of the bureau, Razhden Kuprashvili, said, these two organizations and their leaders were instructed to submit financial reports to the bureau within 5 days, as well as to open and submit information on the details of the bank accounts used for election purposes.
