The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a statement regarding the departure of Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former head of the Co-Investment Fund, from Georgia.
According to the agency, Bachiashvili secretly crossed the Georgian state border on March 2, bypassing the border checkpoint, using a special hiding place in a car, in the direction of Armenia.
In addition, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, after arriving in Armenia, Bachiashvili presented another passport confirming his citizenship of the Russian Federation at the Armenian border checkpoint, as a result of which he crossed the border.
“We would like to provide the public with the information available to the investigation at this stage regarding the alleged illegal crossing of the state border by G.B.
The Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is conducting an investigation under Part 1 of Article 344 of the Criminal Code.
Within the framework of the ongoing criminal investigation, it has been established at this stage that G.B. secretly crossed the Georgian state border on March 2, bypassing the border checkpoint, using a special hiding place in a car, in the direction of Armenia, and after that, at the Armenian border checkpoint, he presented another passport confirming his citizenship of the Russian Federation, as a result of which he crossed the border.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs is actively continuing all relevant investigative actions with the aim of identifying and detaining the persons involved in the commission of the aforementioned crime.
The Ministry will provide information about the results to the public in stages. G.B. has been charged with illegally crossing the border,” reads the statement.
