According to Mikheil Sadradze, the prosecutor in the case of Giorgi Bachiashvili, the former General Director of the Co-Investment Fund, Bachiashvili has practically admitted to what the prosecutor's office is accusing him of.
As he told journalists, today the prosecution will present its closing arguments, where it will evaluate all the evidence.
"The discussion of the case on its merits has already been completed, today I will present my closing arguments, where I will evaluate in detail all the evidence that ultimately proves the commission of crimes by Giorgi Bachiashvili. As for the content of this evidence, it is of quite high quality. By this high quality, I mean the following: it is both documented and unequivocally confirmed by witnesses, and most importantly, confirmed by the accused himself. This is very important because in 2016, when he was conducting correspondence in the format of official legal relations, he recorded the proportionality of his investment in exactly the amount indicated in the resolution. Therefore, this is a factual situation that cannot be interpreted in any other way. Therefore, to put it simply, he has practically admitted to what we are disputing.
As for his search, according to my information, yesterday a red circular was sent to initiate the search procedures,” Mikheil Sadradze said.
Giorgi Bachiashvili has been charged in 3 criminal cases and has been ordered to detention in absentia as a preventive measure in all three of them.
In particular, Giorgi Bachiashvili was initially charged with misappropriation of cryptocurrency belonging to Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the Georgian Dream. The charges relate to an act committed in 2017. In particular, according to the prosecutor's office, Bachiashvili transferred only 536,900 USD to the investor in exchange for the full profit received from the investment, and misappropriated the remaining 8,986 Bitcoins belonging to the investor, the value of which at the time of his misappropriation was up to 43 million USD.
He was granted bail of 2,500,000 GEL as a preventive measure, and additional restrictive measures were also imposed. However, in this case, Bachiashvili's bail has been replaced with detention.
The aforementioned action provides for imprisonment for a term of 9 to 12 years.
Giorgi Bachiashvili was also charged under Part 2 of Article 2201 of the Criminal Code of Georgia in the "Mtkvari HPP" case, which implies failure to perform or improper performance of official duties by a person with special authority, which led to serious consequences. The presented charge provides for imprisonment for a term of 2 to 5 years as a form and measure of punishment. In this case, too, the bail of 50,000 GEL imposed on him as a preventive measure has been replaced with imprisonment.
Bachiashvili has also been charged with illegally crossing the Georgian state border. He has been sentenced to detention as a preventive measure in this case.
