Ioseb Gorgadze, a 46-year-old prisoner who had been transferred from Gldani Institution No. 8 to the Vivamedi Clinic with injuries, has died. Lawyer Mukhran Ghurtskaya told InterpressNews about the above.
As the lawyer notes, Gorgadze was placed in the clinic from Gldani Institution No. 8 after being severely beaten on January 30.
"Last night, at approximately 10:00 PM, the family was informed that he had died from the injuries he had sustained due to which he was transferred from Gldani Prison No. 8. He fought for his life for approximately 3 months, but unfortunately, he could not be saved. The investigation has not yielded any results to date, no one has been charged, and despite the serious injuries, the investigative unit of the Ministry of Justice initiated an investigation under Article 118 of the Criminal Code, which refers to harm to health. Since the fact of death has been established, the Special Investigation Service has now launched an investigation," the lawyer said.
According to Ghurtskaya, the patient was beaten to death and tortured in prison. The lawyer does not know who committed the violence, the prisoners or the staff working there.
According to Ghurtskaya, Gorgadze's facial bones were broken, more specifically, according to the lawyer, the prisoner had approximately 30 fractures in the facial area and also had brain swelling.
