We congratulate the EU member and candidate countries on the anniversary of their unification, and everyone, especially veterans, on the Victory Day, - this is stated in the congratulatory letter of His Holiness Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia, which is being distributed by the Patriarchate of Georgia.

As stated in the congratulatory letter, the greatest sacrifice and ordeal made 80 years ago should once again remind everyone of the need to care for peace.

“I congratulate everyone on the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism. This day encompasses and unites countless examples of amazing heroism and perseverance shown by many during World War II. It was precisely this dedication and, of course, the grace of God that led to the victory over evil by united forces and the specialness of this date for everyone.

However, the victory was achieved at the cost of great sacrifices - cities, villages, temples, historical monuments, works of art were destroyed... And what is most tragic, the number of dead reached 61,000,000; among them, more than 300,000 fighters from Georgia.

Today, when the world is facing a number of difficult challenges, this greatest sacrifice and ordeal made 80 years ago should once again remind everyone of the need to take care of peace, so that the most difficult experience of the past does not bring greater pain to the humanity.

As everyone knows, peace was established after World War II, and relations and friendship between countries reached a new level. The European Union was also created to ensure peace, which was launched on this very day in 1950.

We congratulate the member and candidate countries of the European Union on the anniversary of their unification, and everyone, especially veterans, on the Victory Day.

May God bless Georgia and the whole world,” reads the statement.
