Many perpetrators of the crime of attempting to overthrow the government will face severe consequences in accordance with the law - these individuals should expect surprises, stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze during a briefing.
According to the Prime Minister, after the “failed attempt to overthrow the government,” many organizations and politicians distanced themselves from the process, but they will not escape responsibility.
“It was announced that the government would be overthrown. You saw that approximately 5-7 thousand people attended the rally aimed at overthrowing the government. They moved to action, began the overthrow attempt, it failed, and then they started distancing themselves from it. This is a very simple chronology of how the rally participants distanced themselves from the unsuccessful attempt to overthrow the government. Only after the attempt failed did specific individuals and organizations, including Salome Zurabishvili, leaders of certain parties, specific activists, and others, start distancing themselves from the overthrow attempt. However, of course, no one will escape responsibility. This includes political responsibility.
As for participation in violence, the situation is even more serious for those individuals. Everyone who participated in the violence is, without exception, a perpetrator of the crime of attempting to overthrow the government. Accordingly, these individuals should expect surprises in the coming days, and it won’t take many days for this to happen.
Today, we have far more resources for identifying individuals than we had even a few months ago. If, at the time, only 3% of violators were identified, today we have significantly more resources, and therefore, many perpetrators of the crime of attempting to overthrow the government will face severe consequences in accordance with the law. The law will act very strictly,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
