“These kinds of government changes cannot be supported by our political team for a very simple reason,” said Berdia Sichinava, Executive Secretary of the party “For Georgia,” responding to a question on whether the party would support the nomination of Gela Geladze as Head of the State Security Service.
According to him, these reshuffles will change nothing for ordinary citizens.
“Our parliamentary team will not support the proposed personnel changes for a very simple reason - in a democratic society, changes are meant to improve something: people’s living conditions, and to solve socio-economic and security problems. In this case, we believe that nothing changes for ordinary citizens with these appointments. The system continues to act violently against its own citizens, and no one has been held accountable for violence against journalists, citizens, or young people. Therefore, our political team cannot support such government changes,” Sichinava said.
He also commented on the creation of the new position - State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies - which will be led by Mamuka Mdinaradze, stating that “this is a demotion for Mdinaradze.”
“This is a direct indicator that Ivanishvili is preparing Kobakhidze for dismissal. Mdinaradze cannot possibly have any real coordinating function. How can you imagine it - that he is supposed to act like a postman between Sulkhan Tamazashvili and Geka Geladze? What coordination are we talking about? His role will be that of a postman. The National Security Council used to be the coordinating body, but it was abolished. Kobakhidze said he himself would be the coordinator. A ministry without its own building, locked in two rooms inside the administration - how can it possibly have a significant function? It is hard for me to imagine that. This will inevitably affect personnel policy.
Inside the ‘Georgian Dream’ team, they know very well that the removal of Irakli Kobakhidze is an inevitable process. Kobakhidze himself and Mdinaradze understand this best,” Sichinava stated.
For reference, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced the creation of a new post - State Minister for Coordination of Law Enforcement Agencies - to be held by Mamuka Mdinaradze, who will also serve as Deputy Prime Minister. Gela Geladze has been nominated as Head of the State Security Service, while Sulkhan Tamazashvili, Chairman of the Government of Adjara, has been appointed Minister of Internal Affairs.
