How will the so-called sabotage case be concluded? All those people, all those political leaders who beat the Dream in 2024 will end up either in prison or outside the country, - one of the opposition politicians accused in the so-called sabotage case, Zura Japaridze, told journalists.

Zura Japaridze assumes that the verdict in the case will be delivered soon.

“The personal communication that we have with the prosecutor’s office is that they intend to finish the case very quickly. Maybe at the end of this month or in early August or in the middle of August. These are the estimated dates, in any case, it will not go beyond August, as far as I have an idea about it and also, my lawyers tell me.

How will they finish it? All those people, all those political leaders who, in total, beat the Dream in 2024, will end up either in prison or outside the country. This is the goal that they have at the moment. [The goal of our detention] is probably a signal to the West that either “we will settle on our terms, or we will let the people you are talking to leave the country or put them in prison.” The second thing is that they are also cleaning the political field and clearing out those political players who have been repeating for years, months, that the old faces should go and the new faces should do something.

In short, the sanctioning of Ivanishvili turned out to be a problem. The sanctioning of Ivanishvili is considered to have weakened the country, therefore, everyone who worked on sanctions weakened the country because the West sanctioned Ivanishvili, but the sanctioning does not depend on us. We can say something a million times that someone should be sanctioned, but the sanctioning is the result of the specific policy of a specific country,” said Zura Japaridze.

For information, Mikheil Saakashvili, Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Gvaramia, Nika Melia, Zurab Girchi Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze stand accused in the so-called sabotage case.

Specifically:

Giorgi Vashadze and Zurab “Girchi” Japaridze are charged under Article 318(1) and Article 319 of the Criminal Code, covering sabotage and assisting a foreign country in hostile activities. These charges carry a sentence of 7–15 years imprisonment.

Elene Khoshtaria is charged under Articles 318(1), 319, and 321¹(1), covering sabotage, providing material resources for the crime, and assisting a foreign country in hostile activities.

Nika Gvaramia, Nika Melia, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Badri Japaridze are charged under Article 318(1), covering sabotage.

Mikheil Saakashvili is charged under Article 317, which covers calls to violently change Georgia’s constitutional order or overthrow state power.

As a preventive measure, Giorgi Vashadze and Zurab “Girchi” Japaridze have bail set at 30,000 GEL each, while Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze have bail set at 1 million GEL each.
