Paata Burchuladze releases a letter from prison

Singer Paata Burchuladze, who was convicted in connection with the October 4 case, has published a letter discussing the events of October 4, 2025.

In the letter, Burchuladze says that through the letter he is reminding the “Georgian Dream” of the decision made by Georgian citizens on October 4 and why, in his view, the “Georgian Dream” regime is illegitimate.

“Let us remind the ‘Georgian Dream’ of the decision made by Georgian citizens on October 4 and why the ‘Georgian Dream’ regime is illegitimate.

Declaration of the National Assembly of October 4, 2025:

We, the citizens of Georgia, gathered at the National Assembly, declare that our homeland has been seized; the so-called government has lost the trust of the people, and state institutions no longer reflect the will of the Georgian people. The Constitution of Georgia states that the source of state power is the people. Today, the people are reclaiming their power from the usurper in order to protect peace, security, and national interests.

The informal rule of Bidzina Ivanishvili has created a real threat to Georgia’s sovereignty and to every citizen. Based on all of the above, the following was put to a vote:

The National Assembly declares that power belongs entirely to the Georgian people! Adopted unanimously.

The National Assembly declares that, following the allegedly rigged October 26 elections and their non-recognition by the international community, the so-called government has constitutionally lost its legitimacy, and therefore its authority has been terminated! Adopted unanimously.

The National Assembly declares a peaceful transitional period that will ensure the peaceful restoration of power to the people, the liberation of democratic institutions, the immediate resumption of dialogue on Georgia’s accession to the European Union, and the peaceful protection of the country’s security! Adopted unanimously.

The National Assembly of Georgia demands that the following six individuals be held accountable for allegedly violating the Constitution of Georgia:

Irakli Kobakhidze

Shalva Papuashvili

Anzor Chubinidze

Mamuka Mdinaradze

Tea Tsulukiani

Bidzina Ivanishvili

Adopted unanimously!” the letter published on Paata Burchuladze’s page reads.

On October 4, in parallel with the local elections, the movement “Rustaveli Avenue” organized a protest rally called the “People’s Assembly.” Citizens initially gathered at Freedom Square. Following a speech by one of the organizers, Murtaz Zodelava, who addressed those gathered saying, “Today, masculine force will begin to act — we will move toward Baratashvili with masculine force and take the keys to the Presidential Palace; this will be the first step,” some of the protesters moved along Atoneli Street toward the Presidential Palace.

Several people also broke through the fence surrounding the courtyard of the Atoneli Palace. Chants including “Peaceful Revolution” and “Peaceful Overthrow” were heard at the protest.

Paata Burchuladze and Murtaz Zodelava were arrested, along with National Movement member Irakli Nadiradze, Strategy Builder leader Paata Manjgaladze, and Lasha Beridze. Dozens of other activists were also arrested in connection with the events of October 4.
