State Security Service detains lawyer for attempted fraud

The officers of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia have detained lawyer Ramaz R. in connection with the attempted high value fraud.

An investigation has established that Ramaz R. promised the citizen of Islamic Republic of Iran to assist him in receiving citizenship of Georgia, allegedly with promotion of high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Internal affairs and the Ministry of Justice and in return demanded USD 10 000. Ramaz R. was detained by officers of Anti-corruption Agency under the State Security Service of Georgia when he was receiving the sum required.

The investigation is in progress on the fact of attempted high value fraud (Article 19-180, part III, sub-paragraph “B”, of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages from 6 to 9 years of imprisonment). The investigation is carried out by the Anti-corruption Agency of the State Security Service of Georgia.
