We hosted foreign tourists- Russians, Americans, Scots, Singaporeans, rarely- Georgians. Nakra Valley is not as popular as Mestia. There is a lack of information- told Eka Ansiani- a local resident of Nakra village in Mestia Municipality to "interpressnews".
As residents of Nakra say, the valley has a distinguished tourist attraction. The beauty of nature and hospitality fascinates visitors from all over the world, but Georgians do not even know that on the road to Mestia, in 100 km distance from Zugdidi, there is a great nature of Nakra.
Family of Eka Ansiani has a guesthouse in Nakra. As she told us, it has been a year since she opened the hotel, which is mostly full of tourists. As Ansiani says, if more tourists visit Nakra, the locals will find a source of income and will not move from the homeland to another place.
“Our places are not as popular as Mestia. There is a lack of information about this place. As I know from the elders, in old times there was a base camp of alpinists in Nakra, so many people used to visit this place, mostly-Georgians. People used to come from Samegrelo because of the mineral waters. If tourism develops, more income will be generated and people will not leave this place", sad Eka Ansiani.
Hotel "Nakra" mostly hosts foreign visitors. As the owner-Nino Tsindeliani says, her foreign guests are fascinated with the beauty of nature, local cuisine and customs.
“It has been a year since I opened my guesthouse. Mostly, I host foreign visitors. This year, I have received visitors from America, Germany and Ukraine. They like nature and our cuisine-Kubdari, Khachapuri with millet and Chvishtari. I think that along with these places, tourists should meet locals who are hospitable, attentive and trustworthy.
Nakra has many tourist attractions that are not known to the public. However, only in our valley there are 7-8 types of acidic water with different minerals, ” says Nino Tsindeliani. As she said, in addition to accommodation and meals, tourists are offered transportation and horse-riding tours with a guide.
One of Nakra's certified tour guides, Zurab Dadeshkeliani says that he would like to let more people know about Nakra valley as currently only few tourists visit the valley. The place tourists should see in Nakra is the alpine zone, which is 3,000 meters above sea level. The Elbrus peak can be seen from this place well. Tourists can also visit one of the tallest - about 20 meters tall - Kaldani ancestral tower in Nakra Valley, which is preserved unharmed.
Irina Petriashvili, Public Relations Officer of JSC Nenkra Hydro, told Interpressnews about the tourism potential of Nakra Valley and discussed the necessity of promoting the valley. She said that JSC Nenskra Hydro, Nenskra HPP project company, has been running an active information campaign on the media and social network since July to encourage tourism in Nenskra and Nakra valleys.
“One of the components of our company's social responsibility is to support the development of local tourism. This is precisely what our campaign is doing so that as many people as possible can find out about the wonderful places and about the hospitable people who will host them when they arrive,” said Irina Petriashvili.
For information, in Nakra Valley, which belongs to Mestia Municipality, there are currently 8 guesthouses and some are under construction. The village has three certified travel guides.
