Five Georgians arrested in Dublin and Barcelona in joint operation of Georgian, European law enforcers

Georgian, Irish and Spanish law enforcement officers detained five Georgian citizens – members of an organized group - during a joint operation in Dublin and Barcelona on December 9.

As InterPressNews was informed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through police attachés sent to European countries, the Ministry continues to actively cooperate with the law enforcement agencies of the EU member states, Interpol and Europol with the aim of effectively combating international organized crime.

“The detainees are charged with membership of an organized criminal group, purchasing, storing and producing counterfeit documents and facilitating illegal migration. Spanish law provides for up to eight years in prison for the crimes committed by the Georgian citizens”, reads the statement of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Since January this year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has conducted 12 large-scale joint police operations together with its Belgian, French, Ukrainian, Spanish, Irish, Italian and Czech colleagues, resulting in the arrest of 124 Georgian nationals.
