In the first quarter of 2021, the unemployment rate in Georgia increased by 3.7 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 21.9 percent. The information about the data is reported by the National Statistics Office.

"In the I quarter of 2021 labour force (economically active population) constituted 48.3 percent of the working age population (population aged 15 and older), which is 3.0 percentage points less than that was to the corresponding period of the previous year, while employment rate decreased by 4.2 percentage points and equaled to 37.7 percent. The Labour force participation rate (economic activity rate) in urban settlements decreased by 2.3 percentage point, while that decreased by 3.8 percentage points in rural settlements. The employment rate decreased in urban settlements by 4.9 percentage points and by 3.3 percentage points in rural settlements.

In the I quarter of 2021, the share of hired employees was 69.4 percent among employed persons that decreased by 1.2 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

In the I quarter of 2021, the unemployment rate in urban settlements increased by 5.7percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, while in rural settlements that increased by 0.4 percentage points.

Traditionally, the unemployment rate is higher for men than for women. In the I quarter of 2021, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year this indicator increased for women by 4.0 percentage points, while it increased by 3.3 percentage points for men.

The labour force participation rate (activity rate) is higher for men than for women. In the I quarter of 2021 the indicator for women was 38.2 percent and for men – 60.0 percent. The labour force participation rate (activity rate) for women decreased by 3.5, while that decreased by 2.3 percentage points for men, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

In the I quarter of 2021, the employment rate for women as well as for men decreased by 4.5 and 3.8 percentage points, respectively compared to the corresponding period of the previous year", - reports Geostat.
