When the Chairman of the Parliament, without any justification, refuses MP to exercise the right granted by the Constitution to visit the detainee, doubts deepen that Lazare's rights are at serious risk in prison, Lelo MP Ana Natsvlishvili said.
As she noted, the discretionary right of the Speaker of the Parliament does not mean making decisions based on whims.
"As a member of the Parliament of Georgia, I asked for permission to visit Lazare, which I have the right to do as a member of the Parliament, and this is provided for by the regulations of the Parliament of Georgia. Unfortunately, the chairman refused the visit to Lazare in the prison without any justification or explanation. I don't want to make harsh statements, but during the past day, you saw that information was being spread about the violation of his right in prison, and in the conditions when the Speaker of the Parliament refuses to exercise the right granted by the Constitution to a member of the Parliament without any justification or explanation, the doubts deepen that his rights in prison is at serious risk. The fact that it is a discretionary power does not mean that the Chairman can make a decision on a whim. This is his authority, but part of it is that it should be accompanied by a justification why he does not allow me to visit the prisoner," said Natsvlishvili.
