Georgia has become a mechanism for saving Russia from isolation - it seems that the efforts through diplomatic channels did not work, - opposition MP Roman Gotsiridze said, thus responding to the visit of EU Sanctions Envoy, Mr David O’Sullivan to Georgia.

According to him, participating directly and indirectly in circumventing sanctions is immoral and criminal.

"Everybody knows very well that Georgia is a transit channel, in fact, the savior of the Russian economy, since the goods coming from Turkey enter Russia through Georgia. Just as Georgia increased its exports to the Central Asian republics, and from there it enters Russia with a duty-free regime. After the Russia-Ukraine aggression, Georgia has become a mechanism for saving Russia from isolation, including through sanctioned shipments from Georgia, therefore there is a great interest towards Georgia, and the statement made in the State Department two weeks ago, the visits of high officials of Western states are not a coincidence. It seems that efforts through diplomatic channels did not work and now they are openly coming to Georgia so that this process is public and on the other hand levers are activated so that Russia cannot circumvent Western sanctions," Gotsiridze said.
