The Constitutional Court of Georgia accepted the constitutional appeal regarding the impeachment of the President for consideration.
In particular, the constitutional appeal (by the members of the Parliament of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, Shalva Papuashvili, Mamuka Mdinaradze and others, a total of 80 members) refers to the alleged violation of the Constitution of Georgia by the President.
The case will be considered by the Plenum of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, in an oral hearing, with the participation of the authors of the submissions and the President of Georgia.
"The subject of consideration is the possible violation of Article 52, Sub-Clause A of the Constitution of Georgia, due to the exercise of representative authority in foreign relations by the President of Georgia without the consent of the Government of Georgia, which was manifested by conducting working visits abroad and holding work meetings and negotiations with officials," it is stated in the information published on the website of the Constitutional Court.
The basis for the initiation of the impeachment process against Zurabishvili by the ruling team became the foreign visits made by the President, for which the Government did not give consent to Salome Zurabishvili. The issue of impeachment of the President was decided on September 1 at the meeting of the political council of the Georgian Dream party. The Constitutional Court has a one-month deadline to prepare its opinion. In case of a positive conclusion by the court, 100 votes of deputies are needed to remove the President, which the majority of Georgian Dream does not have.
