Bidzina Ivanishvili has not played a positive role in accelerating our path to the European Union, which was initiated by Ukraine - perhaps he played a negative role, if we consider that he inspires those in power when they make bad decisions, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said in an interview with Le Monde, when she answered the question whether she thinks the same way as the Prime Minister, who pointed out the role of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of Georgian Dream, in the positive recommendation of the European Commission.
As Zurabishvili says, the start of the impeachment procedure could not happen without Ivanishvili, and if Georgian Dream were to succeed in this, "it would have had an extremely negative impact on European decisions".
“He [Bidzina Ivanishvili] played a very important role in nominating me as a pro-European candidate for the presidency of the country [in 2018], but he has not played a positive role in accelerating our path to the European Union, which was initiated by Ukraine. Perhaps he played a negative role, if we consider that he inspires those in power when they make bad decisions. For example, the issue of my impeachment could not have happened without him, and if they had succeeded in this, it would have had an extremely negative impact on European decisions," states Zurabishvili.
When asked - she came to power thanks to Ivanishvili and what is he accusing Zurabishvili of now, the President says that Ivanishvili is probably accusing her of not being in his hands.
"Without the support of the dominant party, it is clear that as an independent candidate, I did not have the leverage to be elected. What he accuses me of is probably that I am not in his hands, like the rulers who are members of Georgian Dream," Zurabishvili said.
Also, according to the President, she has not had contact with Ivanishvili for almost three years.
"I haven't had any contact with him for two and a half, three years. Apart from foreign policy, I never had any other conversation with him. When I returned from my trip to the EU, I came to share my thoughts on what we should do. It was more of a monologue than an actual dialogue. No one knows what he thinks," says Zurabishvili.
