Yes, we want to have more Georgians, more citizens of Georgia, and yes, we should support this in every way, including by subsidizing the IN VITRO procedure, Mikheil Saakashvili, the third president of Georgia, writes on Facebook.
Saakashvili explains the statement made by him in one of the court proceedings on the mentioned issue.
"Some people are offended why I mentioned different nationalities when I was talking about financial assistance for artificial insemination for Georgians.
Based on my biography, it is at least embarrassing to accuse me of racism towards other nations or sexism, especially when it comes to birthrate.
The fact remains, the procedure of artificial insemination costs up to several thousand dollars, which 90% of Georgians simply do not have.
Yes, we want to have more Georgians, more citizens of Georgia, and yes, we should support this in every way, including by subsidizing the IN VITRO procedure," Saakashvili wrote.
Mikheil Saakashvili stated during the trial that a policy of very active encouragement of birth should be implemented.
"We need many children, we need incentives. Today, Georgian women carry other people's children in their bellies. Foreigners come and use Georgian women, they are in internal trouble. They have to carry their children. They should conceive their own child, not American, Austrian, Bangladeshi or anyone else," Saakashvili said.
