Extradition agreement between USA and Georgia initialed

As part of the official visit to the United States of America, an extradition agreement between the USA and Georgia has been initialed.

According to the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, the document was initialed by Prosecutor General of Georgia Irakli Shotadze and Minister of Justice of Georgia Rati Bregadze, and from the American side by Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Counselor for International Affairs Bruce C. Swartz.

"This is an important moment in the history of Georgia. The past three decades of very interesting cooperation between Georgia and the United States are a demonstration of our steadfast friendship, and this historic document is the result of that partnership. I am proud that for many years my office has represented the central competent body in Georgia. The process of the agreement finally entering into force includes additional stages, I am sure that both countries will jointly be able to complete the necessary procedures in the shortest possible time", said Irakli Shotadze at the initialing ceremony.

The initialing of the extradition agreement between the United States and Georgia was preceded by negotiations with the American side in Tbilisi in January of this year. Representatives of the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia were actively involved in the process of negotiations, who made a significant contribution to the development of the final text of the agreement.
