Ombudsman: If Mikheil Saakashvili would like to see the Public Defender, I will never refuse - his condition has improved, he has to go to the council in January and they will say what his condition is

Mikheil Saakashvili knows and I have told him that if he wants to see the Public Defender, I will never refuse, - Public Defender Levan Ioseliani said in an interview with "InterpressNews".

As Ioseliani explains, Saakashvili's health condition is no longer critical and has improved.

"I visited Mikheil Saakashvili when I became a Public Defender. Since then, I have not stopped monitoring his health. Periodically, my deputy, the head of the department joins him, and most importantly, once in 3 months, the council goes, checks his health condition, and then we publish the report publicly.

Mikheil Saakashvili knows and I have told him that if he wants to see the Public Defender, I will never refuse. However, as far as I know, his health condition is not so critical anymore, his condition has improved. In January, the Consilium will have to enter, and additionally, the Consilium will say what is Mikheil Saakashvili's condition. He is naturally a special prisoner, but in terms of rights, he enjoys equal rights like other prisoners. When I went to see Saakashvili, I visited all the prisoners who were in that institution.

Regardless of who a person is, we all have equal rights. Naturally, he is a former president and there will be more interest in him from the media, however, for me as a public defender, protecting the rights of convicts is equally important," says Ioseliani.
