Mamuka Mdinaradze explains what what constitutional amendments "on family values" imply

The leader of the parliamentary majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze, explains what the constitutional amendments "on family values" prepared by the ruling team provide for.

As Mdinaradze mentioned at the briefing, 2 constitutional laws will be initiated. Mamuka Mdinaradze named the specific articles that the amendments refer to.

"As for the constitutional amendments, a total of 2 constitutional laws will be initiated. First, it concerns Article 30 of the Constitution of Georgia, where we defined marriage in 2017, which considers the family as a union between a man and a woman. A third paragraph with the following content will be added to this article - the protection of family values and minors shall ensured by the constitutional law of Georgia, which is an integral part of the Constitution of Georgia. In the next constitutional amendment, the constitutional law of Georgia called "Constitutional law of Georgia on family values and protection of minors" will be presented.

Article 1.

The legislation may regulate only a relationship similar to marriage, which provides for the union of one genetic man and one genetic woman who are at least 18 years old.

Adoption or foster care of a minor is allowed only by married spouses or heterosexual persons in accordance with the Constitution and legislation of Georgia.

Any medical intervention related to changing a person's sex is prohibited.

The document issued by the state or local government shall indicate only the female or male gender that corresponds to his or her genetic data.

Any decision of a public authority or a private person that directly or indirectly restricts the use of gender-based concepts shall be invalid.

Gatherings aimed at promoting same-sex family or intimate relationships, incest, adoption or foster care of a minor by a same-sex couple or a non-heterosexual person, medical intervention related to gender change, or the non-use of gender-specific concepts shall be prohibited.

It shall be prohibited to distribute a work, program or other material with a content aimed at the promotion of same-sex family or intimate relationships, incest, adoption or foster care of a minor by a same-sex couple or a non-heterosexual person, medical intervention related to sex change or the non-use of gender-specific concepts.

It shall be prohibited to provide information in the educational process of a public or private educational institution that is aimed at promoting same-sex family or intimate relationships, incest, adoption or foster care of a minor by a same-sex couple or a non-heterosexual person, medical intervention related to sex change, or the non-use of gender-specific concepts”, - said Mdinaradze.

According to him, "the Constitution itself will be amended, where it will be written that the protection of family values and minors shall be ensured by the constitutional law of Georgia".
