Rati Bregadze to Khatia Dekanoidze: You are requesting to let a convicted prisoner go abroad for treatment, have you read any law at all?

“You filed a petition that has nothing to do with Georgian law or the law of any country in the world. You are requesting to let a convicted prisoner go abroad for treatment, have you read any law at all?!” Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze thus addressed the chairwoman of the faction National Movement, Khatia Dekanoidze.

As he said in response to a question about Mikheil Saakashvili at the plenary session of the Parliament, none of the members of the National Movement asked Saakashvili to end his hunger strike, they even said that the termination of the hunger strike would be tantamount to political death. As for the release of footage related to Saakashvili's transfer to Gldani prison, Bregadze explained that "the footage was shown due to high public interest, in order to ensure the interests of state security."

“Inter alia, the Strasbourg Court did not consider that any right was violated. But you have your own law, which is completely wrong. It is insulting when you tell me that what I am saying has nothing to do with law. I hear this from a representative of the faction that filed a petition, which has nothing to do with Georgian law or the law of any country in the world. You are requesting to let a convicted prisoner go abroad for treatment, have you read any law at all?!” said Rati Bregadze.
