The main rhetorical question is whether we have essentially become a better country after this story, whether we have become politically closer to our western identity and future. The answer is "no", - Chairman of European Georgia Giga Bokeria said about Nika Gvaramia's pardon.

As he noted, the release of Nika Gvaramia is late, although it is the right decision, but despite this, the country is still not free under the rule of Bidzina Ivanishvili's regime.

"It is very good that Nika Gvaramia is free, but the country is not free as long as Bidzina Ivanishvili rules it. This is a short summary of this story. I want to congratulate Nika Gvaramia, his relatives, family, friends and the entire society, who had been adequately assessing this most difficult problem, on his release. Emotions in such a situation are completely understandable. Nika Gvaramia's case, even under Ivanishvili's regime, was the most trivial among political cases. However, we should not lose a sane assessment of the situation. From my point of view, the main rhetorical question is whether we have essentially become a better country after this story, whether we have become politically closer to our western identity and future. The answer is “no”. We remember many cases of release of political prisoners with the amnesty instrument. Practice shows that this, in the end, does not move the country forward. Moreover, we have seen that Ivanishvili and his regime treat these cases like hostage trading, inside and outside the country. We must understand that as long as we have a regime that can arrest anyone without grounds, our political trouble is not over. The aggressive reaction of the Ivanishvili regime should not deceive us. They had exactly this reaction to the release of political prisoners last time. Their attitude can be seen in the most disgusting form when they recall Gvaramia's attacks on Salome Zurabishvili. This shows that they understand justice as a matter of personal relationship," said Giga Bokeria.
