Eka Gigauri: Talking about the war serves to intimidate people and shift the focus

Talking about war serves to intimidate people and shift the focus - when you have a governing team with a broken relationship with the United States of America and the EU, how are you going to get EU candidate status? - Eka Gigauri, chairwoman of Transparency International - Georgia assesses the letter of Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of Georgian Dream.

As Gigauri explains, society should focus on getting EU status.

"Talking about war serves to intimidate people and shift the focus. The goal of the ongoing discussion on the part of Georgian Dream is to shift the focus from an important issue to an insignificant one, and on the other hand, to spoil relations with the Western partners - the European Union and the United States of America. No matter what they say, they are doing it. We see this on a daily basis.

When the ruling team has a broken relationship with the United States of America and the European Union, how are you going to get EU status, when you are not even going to implement reform. This is what they do, it's incredible to me. The result will be very bad. The main thing is that society doesn't give itself up to it. Let's focus on the EU status," Eka Gigauri notes.

For information, former Prime Minister of Georgia, founder of Georgian Dream Bidzina Ivanishvili issued a statement today. Bidzina Ivanishvili confirms that a meeting took place between him and the US Ambassador to Georgia, Kelly Degnan. As Ivanishvili explains, the meeting was held on March 21 at the Ambassador's request and "lasted about three hours".

He also talks about the political situation in the region and notes that today, when the threat of war has been neutralized, the ruling team has the opportunity to shift its attention to the most important priority and ensure that Georgia's relations with the USA and the European Union are not damaged. In addition, as Bidzina Ivanishvili explains, "certain forces actively tried to drag Georgia into the war, and this goal is still relevant today - the ruling team worked well and overcame the first stage of the threat of war."

In his statement, Ivanishvili says that the ongoing dispute between him and the Swiss bank is directly connected with ongoing processes in Georgia and notes that "it doesn't matter on what he planned to spend the funds frozen by the Swiss bank."
