The Minister of Economy of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili, hopes that the transportation of oil through the Baku-Sufsa pipeline will start this year.

According to Davitashvili, talks on the issue have been going on for two years.

According to the Minister of Economy, it is expected that more than one million tons of oil will be transported through the mentioned pipeline in the future.

"As for the transportation of Kazakh oil through the Baku-Sufsa pipeline, we have been actively talking about it for almost two years, this is not only an issue of Georgia. There is a very important close cooperation of several countries to get this oil into this pipeline. You know that close cooperation is needed with BP. We are in direct contact with BP and in principle the positions are absolutely consistent.

As for the use of the oil pipeline, the position of the Azerbaijani side is very important here, and we have an intensive dialogue here as well. It was necessary to agree on certain conditions. You know that Kazakh oil is of a different type, and it could not be mixed with Azerbaijani oil. I think that we now have certainty in the main issues and we hope that this year the oil production will start. In the future, we think that we will be able to handle more than one million tons of oil. I hope that the oil transportation will start this year", said Davitashvili.
