Tamar Kordzaia: The fact that MPs are not allowed to visit Mikheil Saakashvili, and the hearing of our complaint is not scheduled for months, shows that Saakashvili and the opposition are victims of political revenge

The fact that MPs are not allowed to visit Mikheil Saakashvili, and the hearing of our complaint is not scheduled for months, shows that Mikheil Saakashvili and the opposition are victims of political revenge, - opposition MP Tamar Kordzaia said at the briefing.

According to her, all the bodies - the Security Service, the Ministry of Justice, the Parliament and the court are involved in the process that MPs cannot enter and visit Mikheil Saakashvili.

"I want to draw attention to the illegality surrounding the Members of Parliament of Georgia and Mikheil Saakashvili. For more than a year, the Speaker of the Parliament has forbidden MPs to visit Mikheil Saakashvili. On April 14, 2023, I filed a lawsuit, because I believe that I am obliged to protect the authority of a Member of Parliament by all means defined by law. But so far we have not been able to schedule a court hearing on this issue. In 7 months, this Parliament will not exist and we may not even have the authority of a Member of the Parliament, which means that the authority of a Member of Parliament is a fiction in the law, which states that we can visit any prisoner.

The process went like this: when Shalva Papuashvili forbade entry to Mikheil Saakashvili, we started to clarify the issue. It turned out that the head of the Security Service, Mr. Liluashvili, appealed to the Minister of Justice, Rati Bregadze, who verbally appealed to Papuashvili, and he verbally forbade the entry. When we started the dispute, then written documents were signed. The court, which is holding a conference of judges today to prove that it is fair and impartial, has not held a session for over a year. I think that this chain clearly shows that Mikheil Saakashvili and the opposition are victims of political revenge, because all bodies - the Security Service, the Ministry of Justice, the Parliament and the court are involved in the process that I, as a Member of Parliament, cannot enter and visit Mikheil Saakashvili. We have the right to do so constitutionally, according to the legislation, and these rights are being restricted completely unjustifiably by systemic disorder, deliberate, planned illegality," Kordzaia said.
