Georgia's strategic goal - the function of the corridor - will be lost if there is no strategic cooperation with China - China is considered to be the main actor, Georgian Dream MP Mikheil Sarjveladze told the media.
As for the issue related to the development of Anaklia port, as Sarjveladze mentioned, Chinese companies had a chance to be involved in the port construction process even before the establishment of strategic relations with China, and in this regard, nothing has changed after the establishment of strategic relations.
According to him, China has repeatedly stated clearly that it supports the territorial integrity of Georgia, which is stipulated in many documents, "but if it is not stipulated in any of the documents, it cannot have any negative impact on China's clear position".
"There is nothing against the interests of Georgia in visits to China, such visits are vitally important for Georgia. No matter how much the opposition tries to fabricate some story so that it can be considered that the visit harms the interests of Georgia, it will be futile.
We remember the loud statements of the same opposition, as if the signing of strategic relations with China would prevent us from obtaining the candidate status, which turned out to be not true. Many European countries have very deep and intense relations with China, which is normal. Look at the dynamics of EU member states' trade relations with China - even between China and the US.
Considering the interests of Georgia, when it comes to the function of the corridor, no matter how unique role many states may have, such a large economy located in the East, such as China, is especially important. Therefore, it is strategically important for Georgia to have good relations with China, which is considered as the main actor - China is considered as the main actor in the trade relations that are strategically important for Georgia," said Mikheil Sarjveladze.
